Say Hello to my Little Friend

Well what have we here? It must by my new computer…

After we got my Hackbook (read about it here), I fell in love with Macintosh. I know a lot of people moan that I’m a magpie because I like the shiny Macs, but I love everything about them. So after the Hackbook, I tried to make my larger Windows laptop look like mac with strange themes, that ended up breaking the sound. Instead, Toby installed OSX on an old box PC that he built a while ago, and away I went! Unfortunately, it kept crashing due to driver issues and eventually it gave up after an apple update and didn’t boot anymore.

So, in replacement, I have treated myself to this…

Yes, that is a brand new 21.5″ Apple iMac, running OSX Lion. I love it! Here’s my tech specs:

  • 2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
  • 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • 4GB (two 2GB) memory
  • 500GB hard drive
  • AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB
The whole thing is incredible and runs everything perfectly. I’ve been playing WoW on it with full graphics with awesome framerates, and everything is lightning fast because of the i5. It’s ideal for all the design work that I’ve been doing, and makes my desk look so tidy with it’s tiny keyboard and wireless bluetooth everything. I’m only just getting used to the mighty mouse though, since it’s multitouch and makes it a little awkward to click with, as I can’t right click until I’ve lifted my left finger off the mouse, but that’s a minor detail!
One thing I have to get to learn is the scrolling on lion. Everything’s so easy, I can have multiple desktops and scroll between them with two fingers across the mouse, but the scrolling directions seem reversed to me. It’s like the iPhone; you push the page up and pull it down, but when I’m used to rolling the wheel down to move the page down it’s weird to stroke the mouse upwards. It all makes sense and I’m almost getting the hang of it. It’s a small price to pay for such an awesome machine anyway.
I love it to bits, and I’m sure I’ll be blogging about some cool things I’ve found, such as the free app that I should be getting due to UCAS!
